Missing MJ

Oh Michael. Such an American tragedy. I'm going to miss ol' Michael; he was a big part of my childhood. When I was a wee girl of 5 or so instead of having a blanket or a doll to carry around I had a "maxi glove" (where that name came from I will never know). The maxi glove was a simple black leather glove that I wore everywhere and would not take off for anyone. Security glove. It made me feel safe and it made me feel like Michael Jackson. I felt powerful in that glove. Tonight I'm putting on the glove ( okay the one I wear might be closer to a mitten) in MJ's honour.

BREAK EVERY RULE

Oh 99 cent finds! I love the look of records, they are so sexy. I bought these little gems because the ladies looked so damn fine. Have you seen those hat girls? But let's get serious, no one beats Tina. I really think Tina needs another comeback. Maybe I can resurrect her somehow. I've had a soft spot for Tina since I first saw What's Love Got To Do With It. I used to to force my sister to recreate Ike and Tina domestic battles with me. I always played Ike (sorry Tina, it was just a meatier role). The world could always use a little more T power.

CITY ALIEN

This weekend I visited Silverhill, a small community founded by Swedish farmers, to celebrate the 90th anniversary of its community hall. It's only a one room log cabin in the middle of the woods, but it was amazing to see just a simple building bring together so many people and generations.

I was in a pretty bad mood driving in from the city but as soon as I got there my spirits lifted and I couldn't help but feel changed from the support and togetherness of these people. They would do anything for each other. Their parents were best friends and now they were best friends. They trade lettuce for eggs and quilts for cows. They still make people like this?? Yes, they do. Although some of them were my family I felt a bit envious of their stories and connections with each other. I felt like a cold, angry city alien watching the scene.

So where I'm at in life I think the best way for me to achieve that same sense of community is to start a monthly dance party. I'm talkin' a serious dance-til-you-bust-a-toe party. Also I'm going to create a barter system so we don't have to worry about money ever again. Stay tuned....

MY NEW FAVOURITE SONG

Makes me want to run for hills of Sweden and dance with the Indians too. Her scarf/hat combo is right up my alley. Oh and I really love her smudgy crazy lady blue eyeliner!
