LANVIN '09

Is Lanvin for old ladies? I guess only old ladies could afford it. Well I don't care, I really love the '09 collections. The clothes are beautiful and so very French!

LOVIN'

My friend found these wedding photos online and I thought they were gorgeous. I don't normally feel inspired or excited about wedding photos (especially those of strangers) but these ones are special. I love how the photographer managed to capture the mood, emotion and love of these people and made it look like a fashion editorial all at the same time. Lovely.

Missing MJ

Oh Michael. Such an American tragedy. I'm going to miss ol' Michael; he was a big part of my childhood. When I was a wee girl of 5 or so instead of having a blanket or a doll to carry around I had a "maxi glove" (where that name came from I will never know). The maxi glove was a simple black leather glove that I wore everywhere and would not take off for anyone. Security glove. It made me feel safe and it made me feel like Michael Jackson. I felt powerful in that glove. Tonight I'm putting on the glove ( okay the one I wear might be closer to a mitten) in MJ's honour.

BREAK EVERY RULE

Oh 99 cent finds! I love the look of records, they are so sexy. I bought these little gems because the ladies looked so damn fine. Have you seen those hat girls? But let's get serious, no one beats Tina. I really think Tina needs another comeback. Maybe I can resurrect her somehow. I've had a soft spot for Tina since I first saw What's Love Got To Do With It. I used to to force my sister to recreate Ike and Tina domestic battles with me. I always played Ike (sorry Tina, it was just a meatier role). The world could always use a little more T power.

CITY ALIEN

This weekend I visited Silverhill, a small community founded by Swedish farmers, to celebrate the 90th anniversary of its community hall. It's only a one room log cabin in the middle of the woods, but it was amazing to see just a simple building bring together so many people and generations.

I was in a pretty bad mood driving in from the city but as soon as I got there my spirits lifted and I couldn't help but feel changed from the support and togetherness of these people. They would do anything for each other. Their parents were best friends and now they were best friends. They trade lettuce for eggs and quilts for cows. They still make people like this?? Yes, they do. Although some of them were my family I felt a bit envious of their stories and connections with each other. I felt like a cold, angry city alien watching the scene.

So where I'm at in life I think the best way for me to achieve that same sense of community is to start a monthly dance party. I'm talkin' a serious dance-til-you-bust-a-toe party. Also I'm going to create a barter system so we don't have to worry about money ever again. Stay tuned....

MY NEW FAVOURITE SONG

Makes me want to run for hills of Sweden and dance with the Indians too. Her scarf/hat combo is right up my alley. Oh and I really love her smudgy crazy lady blue eyeliner!

GIMME

I know I shouldn't be thinking about fall but I love the new Alexander Wang. Does anyone else love those hats or is it just me?

GOLD

UNDERGROUND LIFE CHANGES

I dreamed last night I was stuck in a crawl space. It had dirt walls and I was not able to stand. I didn't know where I was so I kept asking everybody over and over. All they could say was "...but you are dead." Purgatory. If you want to know where purgatory is, it's a moist little crawl space somewhere between heaven and hell, deep in the Earth's crust. Pretty scary stuff, I tell you what. I just started praying and praying for a way out. Sounds like pretty text book purgatory rules, but it worked. I woke up. I am here. Is this Heaven? Yay! I'm going hiking in the sun now!!!!

Porque Te Vas

If you are looking for a little piece of Spanish gold you should watch Cria Cuervos. This scene is pretty much amazing. Ana Torrent is incredible.

LADY TROPICAL

Tu Tu circa 1950

I’ve decided I need to make a trip to Maui ASAP. I love it there. I don’t care how on-the-beaten-path it is, I still love it. My Tutu (grandmother) lived there and I visited her so often when I was a kid I began to think I was Hawaiian. I keep dreaming about being there. It might have been the scent of the beautiful birthday flowers my sister gave me yesterday that seeped into my dreams, but I woke up today knowing I have to go. I usually have a good Maui dream every couple of months. It’s mostly me frolicking in the deep swells of the ocean or escaping a tsunami or two but I quite enjoy it. Anyway, I recently came across some paintings Tutu made while living there and they really inspired me. I want this to be the next place where I create something. Something tropical. Something involving music and Tomoe Ami. Is this possible? So, going to find a way to get there. Anyone wanna join me?

Tu Tu Paintings (excuse my bad camera phone pics)

Beautiful Flowers and beautiful kitty.

THE LAST JUNIOR MINT ON EARTH

So I was rolling around on the floor playing with my sweet kitten Jammu when I noticed a single Junior Mint...just lying there under the couch. Oh hello there. How did you end up down there? I quickly put it in my mouth and then wondered...whose Junior Mint is this anyway? It doesn't matter. I like Junior Mints. Anyhoo, I thought I would tell you a bit about my Top 5 All-Time Candy Picks...and why I love them so.

#1 TRIPLE BLAST SUCKERS - I wish I had a picture for you all, but Willy Wonka sadly discontinued this product. These suckers were the creamiest most delicious suckers in the whole world. Each layer was a brilliant surprise ranging from sweet to sour to creamy to heaven. If I ever find one again I will simply cry.

#2 FUN DIP - I love the powdery goodness that is Fun Dip. The edible dipping stick they provide is both practical and delicious; it instinctively knows just how much sour sugar to grab each time. The powder is never too harsh and won't leave holes in your tongue... like certain other unnamed candies which may or may not rhyme with Shmixie Shticks.

#3 BOTTLE CAPS - I can't seem to find these anymore, where are they? They provide you with a nice solid crunch and a pop drink flavour that will leave you begging for more. Don't suck on bottle caps - just crunch as hard and fast as you can. Root Beer is my favourite kind...what's yours?

#4 LOTSA FIZZ - Man I love these ones. My only complaint is that the package keeps getting shorter and shorter every year. They used to be like ten feet long when I was a kid, I swear. These ones are amazing for sucking or crunching. They have a spectacular powdery fizz in the middle that will take you away to a magical fizzy mountaintop. I wish they would just sell the powder on it's own, I would keep it on the dinner table like salt and pepper.

#5 STRAWBERRY MARSHMALLOWS - This is bound to be a controversial pick so allow me to explain. Save these pillowy bastards for the end of a candy binge. They are a perfect sugar hangover remedy. They are not too sweet and they cleanse the palate, leaving you rejuvenated and guilt-free. Enjoy!
